Lennon’s Team Is Much More Like It Today … Let’s See What They Can Do.

Before we start, I am not sharing in the glee that Vasilis Barkas is not even in the squad.

A lot of people on social media seem awfully pleased with that and I really don’t know why.

According to reports he’s injured. Anyone expressing their joy over that should get a grip.

That aside, I’m happy with the team today.

Scott Brown has dropped to the bench and Rogic starts; it’s the team, as I said the other day, that should have started that match in midweek and which finished it. Ajeti will need help up front, but with Rogic behind him and Elyounoussi on one side and Christie coming in from the other we have the firepower.

Lennon has done what many of us expected and returned home to the 4-2-3-1.

Put simply, we don’t have the players at the moment to play any version of the 3-5-2, and until he’s more sure of who he wants in that setup and how he wants it to play – whether he goes with attacking fullbacks making it more like a 5-3-2 or with wingers – we’re better off sticking with the tried and true that the players know and understand.

You saw the difference in them on Thursday; they were excellent.

The line-up today would have been a major surprise a month ago; now it seems like the right thing, like a perfect evolution. The team just seemed to have more about them when we reverted back to it the other night, there was a familiarity which you could see in the way players moved to help each other on and off the ball.

Enjoy this one today folks, and I think we will.

Bain; Frimpong, Duffy, Ajer, Laxalt, Ntcham, McGregor, Christie, Rogic, Elyounoussi, Ajeti
